Why I Support the IHR

By Richard Herman
Costa Mesa, California

Let me introduce myself. I’m a retired electrical engineer who lives in southern California, where I was born and raised.

Richard Herman

16 years I lived and worked in the Middle East. It was during that time that I first began to understand that much of what we Americans are told about the Israel-Palestine conflict and Middle East history is slanted and misleading.

I first heard about the IHR several years ago when I read an item in our local newspaper in which Mark Weber explained the Institute’s work and goals.

I contacted him, and in the years since my appreciation for the IHR has grown steadily, along with my level of support. In addition to donations and many hours of volunteer work, I’ve spoken at IHR meetings.

Although my interest was first captured by the IHR’s perspective on the Middle East, I was steadily more impressed with the Institute’s insights on other historical issues.

The IHR’s perspective has not only been enlightening; it’s gotten me to change my outlook on a range of issues. I now much better understand that the distortion of history and current affairs in our society is no accident, but is part of a systematic, well-organized campaign to promote partisan interests, and to justify war, oppression and injustice.

I’ve been impressed with Mark Weber’s dedication and hard work, and what he and other staff members and volunteers accomplish with modest resources and limited funds

Through meetings, lectures, interviews, online outreach, websites, and distribution of books, discs and flyers, the IHR informs and educates — factually, reasonably and forthrightly. It reaches activists, students, educators and opinion-makers across the country and around the world.

Moreover, I value the Institute’s role as a watchdog. The IHR identifies and counters the forces that corrupt and degrade our world, and thereby works for a more just and secure world, not only for us, but for our children and children’s children.

The Institute’s effectiveness depends, of course, on sustained support from men and women like you and me.

That’s why I’m writing today to ask you to join me in helping to make sure that the IHR continues battling effectively in the months and years ahead.
