A new poll for Data for Progress that surveyed Americans ages 18 to 29 who are likely to vote in the upcoming presidential election found the majority of young Republicans favor cutting off US military aid to Israel. According to the poll, 52% of young Republicans favor an arms embargo on Israel, while 36% oppose the idea, and 17% said they were unsure. The results signal that Israel is in trouble when it comes to long-term support from the US since Republicans are the more pro-Israel party. The poll also found that 62% of young Democrats were in favor of ending weapons shipments to Israel, while 21% opposed, and 17% said they were unsure. Factoring in independent and third-party voters, the poll found that 55% of all likely voters ages 18 to 29 support a US arms embargo on Israel, while 29% oppose the idea and 16% are undecided.

In their lifetimes, China went from 75% rural, and where most of the rural population lacked even electricity and refrigeration, to two-thirds urban and modern. China poured more concrete in just three years, than the United States did in the entire 20th century. In the US and Europe, we tend to view a technological innovation as a great idea that can propel a company or an industry in a new direction over time; in China, the innovations are immediate, population-wide, and become permanent features of life. The Nazi war crimes tribunal in Nuremberg had already been underway for months by the time its counterpart in Tokyo began in March 1946. The staggered start to these investigations made the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, known colloquially as the “Tokyo trial,” heir to the legal milestones laid in Germany. These included the novel concepts of “crimes against humanity” and “crimes against peace” … Three other judges dissented. That included India’s representative on the court, Radhabinod Pal. In a minority opinion that ran over 1,200 pages, Pal not only argued “that each and every one of the accused must be found not guilty” but condemned the Tokyo trial as an exercise in “formalized vengeance.” … The Allied powers, the United States first among them, failed to live up to their professed ideals.

The Israeli rights group B’Tselem said in a press release on Tuesday that Israel was carrying out an ethnic cleansing campaign in northern Gaza and called on the world to stop it. “The magnitude of the crimes Israel is currently committing in the northern Gaza Strip in its campaign to empty it of however many residents are left is impossible to describe, not just because hundreds of thousands of people enduring starvation, disease without access to medical care and incessant bombardments and gunfire defies comprehension, but because Israel has cut them off from the world,” the group said. Israel began its renewed assault on northern Gaza at the beginning of the month and ordered the estimated 300,000 to 400,000 Palestinian civilians living in the area to head south.

Israeli media has reported evidence that a plan to ethnically cleanse northern Gaza and kill any Palestinians who remain is underway. Three Israeli reserve soldiers serving in Gaza told Haaretz this week that they believe the “Generals’ Plan,” also known as the Eiland Plan, is being implemented. “The goal is to give the residents who live north of the Netzarim area a deadline to move to the south of the strip. After this date, whoever will remain in the north will be considered an enemy and will be killed,” a soldier stationed in the Netzarim Corridor was quoted as saying. “It doesn’t conform to any standard of international law. People sat and wrote a systematic order with charts and an operational concept, at the end of which you shoot whoever isn’t willing to leave. The very existence of this idea is unfathomable.”

Of men in the U.S. who turned 18 in 2023, fewer than 40% signed up for the draft — down from more than 60% in 2020 before the start of the war in Ukraine. This eye-popping and previously undisclosed admission, as well as other revelations equally damning to plans to increase readiness to activate a draft, was included in documents released recently by the Selective Service System (SSS) in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. The SSS is maintains a database of eligible male citizens who could be conscripted if and when Congress and the president institute a draft. Per the law, American males must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday or find it difficult to get a driver’s license in some states … Most men register eventually, but often years after their prime draft eligibility.

Billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones is raising alarms about the U.S. government’s current fiscal deficit and the increased spending promised by both presidential candidates … “We are going to be broke really quickly unless we get serious about dealing with our spending issues,” Jones told CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin on Tuesday … The federal deficit for the 2024 fiscal year soared above $1.8 trillion, according to the Treasury Department, 8% higher than 2023 … Jones pointed out in the interview that budget deficits increased under the administrations of former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, and said that Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are “least suited for the job ahead of them” in regard to the budget.

South Korea’s birthrate has fallen so low that people now buy more pushchairs for dogs than for children … The rate required to sustain a population is 2.1, while Britain’s is at a record low of 1.48 … “Financial incentives are necessary but insufficient,” Novak said. “It’s important to eliminate the financial disadvantage for those raising children, but starting a family is at least as much an emotional decision as a rational one. “Culture is a key element. If a childless life is portrayed as a childfree status with more possibilities, freedom, money and potential, and family life as something problematic, full of resignation, compromise, sorrow, pain and worry, then why would young people find it attractive?”

… The Israeli military has nowhere near the capacity to fight so many wars on so many fronts, so it has increasingly demanded US involvement in the conflicts … To fight Iran, with its significant military capabilities, Israel appears desperate to drag the US military into the battle … Washington’s response to Israel trying to drag us into its war with Iran should be just like with Ukraine: “No more weapons, no more money. You’re on your own. Make peace.” That is what a pro-America foreign policy looks like. Our Founders understood it very well and wrote about it often. It’s called “non-intervention.”

… Israel is not only attacking its neighbors. It is at war with the entire world. Israel is especially threatened when the governments of the world come together at the United Nations and in international courts to try to enforce the rule of international law, under which Israel is legally bound by the same rules that all countries have signed up to in the UN Charter and the Geneva Conventions …When Netanyahu addressed the General Assembly in New York in September, he called the UN a “swamp of antisemitic bile” … Over the years, the U.S. has partnered with Israel in its attacks on the UN, using its veto in the Security Council 40 times to obstruct the world’s efforts to force Israel to comply with international law.

US investigators are trying to find out how a pair of highly classified intelligence documents were leaked online. The documents, which appeared on the messaging app Telegram on Friday, contain an alleged US assessment of Israeli plans to attack Iran … The documents also report no sign of any preparations by Israel to activate its nuclear deterrent. At the request of Israel, the US government never publicly acknowledges that its close ally Israel even possesses nuclear weapons, so this has caused some embarrassment in Washington … Part of the current delay in Israel’s response is likely due to US concerns at escalation with less than a month to go before the US presidential elections.

Leaked top secret documents from the Pentagon and the National Security Agency (NSA) outline Israeli preparations for a major attack against Iran, CNN reported on Saturday … One of the documents reveals that Israel maintains a nuclear weapons arsenal which, for decades, has been an open secret. This is highly controversial, as amendments made to US foreign assistance laws by US Senators Stuart Symington and John Glenn in 1976 make Washington’s huge military aid to Israel illegal because Tel Aviv is not a signatory of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. But successive US presidents since Richard Nixon, including Joe Biden most recently, have agreed with their Israeli counterparts to never acknowledge Israel’s approximately 90-300 nukes.

… In August 2020, a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) made headlines with a striking claim: When cared for by white physicians, black newborns were more than twice as likely as white newborns to die, and significantly more likely to survive if cared for by black physicians. The authors speculated that “institutional racism” or racist biases could be among the underlying causes … The study’s finding was widely circulated in traditional and social media and has influenced medical practices and legal discourse … Now, however, a reanalysis of the data by Harvard economist George J. Borjas and Manhattan Institute fellow Robert VerBruggen, published in PNAS in September 2024, has debunked the original study’s headline-grabbing claim.

Miriam Adelson has delivered on a pledge she reportedly made at the start of the general election season, donating $100 million to a campaign committee supporting the candidacy of Donald Trump, according to disclosures filed Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission … A major funder of pro-Israel politics and a prolific donor to Jewish causes, Adelson, 79, is carrying on a legacy she built with her late husband, casino magnate Sheldon Adelson. The Adelson family has long been one of the largest sources of campaign money for Republican candidates and has backed Trump during each of the last three general elections. Now, the widow is wielding an estimated net worth of $35 billion on her own.

This recorded address by Adolf Hitler was distributed on 50,000 phonograph discs during Germany’s fiercely contested national parliament election campaign of July 1932, in which his National Socialist movement emerged as the country’s largest party. This “Appeal to the Nation” is similar in content and tone to many other speeches he gave in 1932, which for Germans was a year of mass unemployment, economic paralysis, and a broken, unresponsive political system. The federal government spent $1.8 trillion more than it collected in tax revenue in fiscal year 2024, according to figures released Friday by U.S. Treasury Department. Congress has run a deficit every year since 2001 … The deficit for fiscal 2024 was $1.8 trillion, or $138 billion higher than the prior year’s deficit. As a percentage of GDP, the deficit was 6.4%, an increase from 6.2% in fiscal 2023 … Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, said that is equal to borrowing about $5 billion a day, adding daily to the nation’s $35.76 trillion debt. “We’re borrowing nearly double the amount we borrowed annually before the pandemic, and this is projected to grow indefinitely,” she said. “This is no way to run a country” …

In numerous German federal states, the prison population is made up of more than 50 percent foreigners, with the cost of these prisoners totaling two billion euros a year, according to an exclusive report from the Austrian news outlet Freilich. Already in mid-July, German state media outlet SWR reported that for the first time, more than half of all prisoners in the southern state of Baden-Württemberg are foreigners. Currently, this figure stands at 50.8 percent … Other states, such as North Rhine-Westphalia, which is Germany’s most populous state, may not reach 50 percent, but the numbers are still extremely high, at 40.4 percent. The top offenders are Turks, Poles, Syrians, Moroccans and Romanians. In Bavaria, the second-largest state by population, 51.1 percent of the prison population is foreign, which includes 4,965 non-German nationals.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them … One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices – 545 human beings out of the 235 million – are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country … Don’t you see how the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

… A military consumed by identity politics threatens the integrity of the republic … Nowhere are the consequences of hiring anyone but those selected for their professional qualifications higher than in the wars our military may soon fight … Military affairs must be a place for this rigorous adherence to meritocracy, because the crucible of war gives no quarter to a person or unit that is anything but qualified. Grace and exceptions can be found elsewhere, but not on the training fields, parade grounds, and command centers of a military America needs to be at her best.

A new poll of battleground states shows the $35 trillion rising national debt is a critical issue for voters. The swing state poll shows that nine out of ten voters want candidates to have a plan for the rising national debt. This includes 95% of those voting for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, 97% of those voting for Republican former President Donald Trump, and 95% of undecided voters. States surveyed were Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The poll was conducted by the Democratic firm Global Strategy Group and the Republican firm North Star Opinion Research from Sept. 23-29. “The national debt is a critical campaign issue for voters in the decisive swing states,” Michael A. Peterson said in a release. He’s CEO of the nonpartisan Peterson Foundation.

Three Israeli reserve soldiers have told [the prominent Israeli daily newspaper] Haaretz that they believe an ethnic cleansing plan is already underway in northern Gaza, where the Israeli military is trying to forcibly displace hundreds of thousands of civilians. Known as the “general’s plan” because it’s being pushed by a retired Israeli general, Giora Eiland, the plan calls for the evacuation of all Palestinian civilians north of the Netzarim Corridor, a strip of land controlled by the Israeli military. Anyone who stays behind will be exterminated, either by military action or starvation.

The Biden administration is not only endorsing but also on the verge of actively assisting a new Israeli armed attack on Iran. National security adviser Jake Sullivan says that the United States is working directly with Israel regarding such an attack. “The United States is fully, fully, fully supportive of Israel,” declares President Joe Biden. The projected attack serves no U.S. interests. The attack perpetuates a broader pattern of escalating violence in the Middle East that also serves no U.S. interests. The Iranian missile salvo to which the coming Israeli attack is ostensible retaliation was itself retaliation for previous Israeli attacks … By cooperating with Israel in a new attack, the United States is assisting a state that has been responsible for most of the escalation and the vast majority of death and destruction in the Middle East for … the past year.

… Yet, 79 years after he killed himself in a Berlin bunker, more than one in 10 (11 percent) of Americans believe the barbaric German tyrant leader had some `good ideas’. A DailyMail.com /J.L. Partners poll found that more than one in five (21 percent) of both Gen Z and black voters and 19 percent of Hispanic voters agreed with the statement. The survey asked 1,000 likely voters whether they think Hitler had some `good ideas’ or if he was `evil and had no redeeming features.’ 77 percent said he was ‘evil’, 12 said they were ‘unsure’ and a surprising 11 percent believe he had some redeeming qualities. When broken down by age group, 21 percent of those under the age of 29 said Hitler had good ideas, compared with 16 percent of those between the ages of 30 and 49 … and just five percent for those over 65 …

… I believe this upcoming election is the most consequential vote Jewish Americans will cast, perhaps in their lifetimes, and again, I cannot remain silent. Jews are safest in a pluralistic society, where democratic institutions and civil rights protections are strong. The brand of authoritarian populism, laced with Christian nationalism and white supremacy that we have seen being normalized by the GOP scares me … Vice President Kamala Harris has a detailed record as an active partner in the Biden Administration, as a Senator, and as a senior officeholder of the largest state in the country. In the face of significant public pressure, and on the eve of a very close election, Biden and Harris continue to stand by Israel.

Almost two-thirds of registered voters agree that all illegal migrants should be deported, according to a Marist poll of 1,628 adults conducted for the pro-migration National Public Radio network. The 59 percent mainstream voters who say “all … should be deported” includes 30 percent who “strongly agree” and 29 percent who “agree.” Only 14 percent — or one in seven people — “strongly disagree.” The Marist poll for the left-wing NPR matches recent polls by YouGov and Harvard-Harris which show majority support for enforcing the nation’s existing laws that protect American strivers and families from employers who cheat by hiring cheap foreign labor. The Marist poll also reveals a 15-point shift from March 2024, when just 51 percent supported and 47 percent opposed, a policy of deporting all illegal migrants.

The U.S. annual deficit is nearing $2 trillion for this fiscal year, almost double the record deficits before the COVID-19 pandemic, as federal borrowing hit more than $5 billion per day. The U.S. Congressional Budget Office reported that the federal deficit hit an estimated $1.8 billion in fiscal year 2024, $139 billion higher than the deficit from the previous fiscal year. The troubling deficit news comes as the national debt continues to soar, drawing closer to $36 trillion. “Within the next dozen years, three major trust funds – for highways, Medicare, and Social Security – will run out of reserves, forcing us to reckon with even tougher decisions on how to keep important government priorities afloat,” Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, said in a statement.

… Iran has made it clear that it does not want a regional conflict; Tehran doesn’t seem to believe it can afford such a war. But Netanyahu clearly thinks it’s in his interest to ramp up conflict right now, as Washington stands frozen — a month out from an election and with a lame duck president who seems incapable of telling Israel “no,” no matter the costs for American security … This White House has repeatedly chosen to keep the U.S. on the precipice of war, rather than restrain Israel’s military as its expanding wars killed more and more civilians in Gaza and now Lebanon … If U.S. service members find themselves in the line of fire in an expanding Iran-Israel conflict, it will be a direct result of this administration’s failure to use U.S. leverage to pursue America’s most core security interest here — avoiding war.

Former President Barack Obama on Thursday had a blunt message to Black men: get behind Vice President Harris and get out to vote. Obama made a surprise stop at a Pittsburgh campaign field office ahead of a rally in the city … Recent polls show Trump has made inroads with Black male voters. Obama, the first Black president, said he wanted to “speak some truths” about that … “On the one hand, you have somebody who grew up like you, knows you, went to college with you, understands the struggles and pain and joy that comes from those experiences,” adding that Harris, who is Black and Asian American, is focused on policy that will benefit Black communities, such as affordable housing and health care. “And on the other side, you have someone who has consistently shown disregard, not just for the communities, but for you as a person.”

… Now, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sees his long-awaited chance to draw the United States into war with Iran. By killing Iranian military leaders and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian soil, as well as attacking Iran’s allies in Lebanon and Yemen, Netanyahu provoked a military response from Iran that has given him an excuse to widen the conflict even further. Tragically, there are warmongering U.S. officials who would welcome a war on Iran, and many more who would blindly go along with it … The U.S. response to Iran’s restraint throughout this crisis has been to keep sending destructive weapons to Israel, with which it has devastated Gaza, killed tens of thousands of women and children, bombed neighboring capitals, and beefed up the forces it would need to attack Iran.

Audio clips of Hitler giving speeches in English, which appear to be AI-generated, have been proliferating on TikTok, earning millions of views. Some users have been promoting and praising the audios … While some of these audios — which are often poorly translated and set to slow, reverb instrumental beats — have been removed, Media Matters has identified accounts dedicated to uploading this content … Since early September, videos with these audios have been proliferating across the platform. TikTok has since removed some of the videos that Media Matters identified, but only after some had earned hundreds of thousands, or even over a million, views. One video, which had earned roughly 120,000 likes and over one million views prior to removal, featured an excerpt from a speech Hitler gave on [Nov. 8, 1942] …

… Here are six key things to know about the crisis in Lebanon and how it could be resolved. 1. Israel has a long history of attacks on Lebanon … 2. Israel occupied Lebanon for 15 years. Israel occupied a wide strip of Southern Lebanon from 1985 until 2000 … 3. Hezbollah is a political and social organization, not just a military one … 5. A permanent ceasefire in Gaza could halt the fighting in Lebanon … 6. Suspending U.S. arms sales is key to getting a ceasefire. Ending the growing disaster in Lebanon — and preventing its escalation into an expanded war — requires the same solution as ending the carnage in Gaza: an immediate and lasting ceasefire. And that means the U.S. must stop sending arms to Israel … The first step is for Washington to stop sending the weapons — in line with what the majority of Americans are demanding.

Alliance minders in Washington and Tokyo are feeling some anxiety today. Shigeru Ishiba has won the contest for leadership of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) … [and is now] Japan’s prime minister … Ishiba, who is 67 and was first elected to the Diet in 1986, has vowed to shake up the 72-year-old security alliance between the United States and Japan, a bilateral alliance that in recent years has focused on maintaining U.S. primacy in East Asia and blocking China’s rise. He views it (correctly, I think) as “asymmetrical,” with Washington largely dictating Japanese foreign policy. “I don’t think Japan is a truly independent nation yet,” Ishiba, the former defense minister, wrote … Some have called Ishiba a Gaullist; he certainly is a nationalist.

… Though it has avoided the worst outcomes, South Africa is hardly a multiracial paradise. Instead, it has trended toward chaos and internal disaster; its economy is in shambles, its once-budding space and nuclear programs are long gone. Crime rules in place of law and order … The economic aspect of South Africa’s decline is primarily a result of its post-apartheid obsession with extending the country’s cursed racial logic, this time in the name of justice and equity … Post-Mandela South Africa is in a state of disaster that seems likely to get worse. In public life, tyranny reigns as the government enforces race-based mandates on companies that are suffering mightily under the burden … Sadly, America has flirted with following the same dark path as South Africa … Though America is not at South Africa’s disastrous level, it may be trending that way.

President Biden privately raged that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was a “f–king liar” when Israel invaded Rafah — and seethed to the PM’s face that he had “no strategy,’’ a blistering new book says. “That son of a bitch, Bibi Netanyahu, he’s a bad guy. He’s a bad f–king guy!” Biden told an aide, according to CNN in a preview Tuesday of Bob Woodward’s upcoming book “War.” The two leaders have had a tumultuous relationship even in public as Israel continues to fight Hamas, and that tension was only elevated behind the scenes, according to Woodward. Biden reportedly called Netanyahu a “f–king liar” in private after Israel expanded its military operations to include Rafah in southern Gaza this past spring.

It is important to remember the brutal assault former President Jimmy Carter faced from militant supporters of Israel, and the number of times there were attempts to silence him, claiming he was “anti-Semitic,” the usual tactic used to silence criticism of Israel … Carter was repaid for his success and for his commitment to both Israeli security and Palestinian rights with a consistent campaign of vilification by American Jewish leaders … Carter himself lamented that whenever an issue arose between the U.S. and Israel, “American Jewish leaders would always side with the Israeli leaders and condemn us for being even-handed in our concern for both Palestinian rights and Israeli security.” When he wrote the book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, which became a New York Timesbest-seller in 2007, the attacks on Carter became brutal.

At the age of 82, Jimmy Carter entered the lion’s den. With the publication of his book, “Palestine: Peace not Apartheid,” he did what a patriot would do: rally Americans to vigorous debate of a critical issue that affects our future. He deserves a hero’s praise. Instead, he has been attacked and defamed … I also experienced firsthand what Carter now faces. Toward the end of my 22-year tenure in Congress, I spoke in favor of Palestinian rights and was critical of Israeli policies of Palestinian land confiscation and Jewish-only settlements on Palestinian lands. These actions were counter to American policy and values.

Former President Donald Trump spoke to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday and yet again expressed his frustration with American Jews. Hewitt ended the interview by referring back to the one-year anniversary of the devastating October 7th terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas … Trump replied, adding: … “I think that Israel has to do one thing. They have to get smart about Trump, because they don’t back me. I did more for Israel than anybody. I did more for the Jewish people than anybody. And it’s not reciprocal, as they say, not reciprocal.” … Trump had previously made headlines when he told a crowd in late September that Jews would be in part to blame if he is not reelected. His comment was widely condemned by critics and anti-semitism watch groups.

… Many were voicing their belief not just that Austria has in the past few years taken in immigrants from outside Europe faster than it can integrate them but also concerns about economic stagnation and the spiraling cost of living. Sunday’s election [Sept. 29], which gave the Freedom Party (FPOe) led by the Russia-friendly, eurosceptic Herbert Kickl 29 percent of the vote, its best-ever showing, delivered a clear message … FPOe supporters are more likely to be edgy about terrorism and immigration, and also the least likely to agree that democracy is the most effective form of government, according to a survey of 1,248 voters … Some 57% of voters said Austria had been on the wrong track over the last five years, up from 32% in 2019, the Foresight study found.

Today marks the one year anniversary of the remarkably successful Hamas raid on Israel, in which some 1,500 lightly-armed Islamic militants from Gaza so greatly humiliated the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his country’s entire national security establishment. The consequences of these last twelve months have been enormous, not merely for the Jewish State and the rest of the Middle East, but also for America and the entire world … After the events of the last twelve months, I tend to doubt that the country will survive much longer in anything like its existing form, and its collapse may also take down with it the entire political structure of organized Jewry worldwide, which today so heavily dominates both America and the rest of the West.

A self-described Nazi will become the first person in Australia sentenced to prison for performing an outlawed Nazi salute when a magistrate sets his term next month. Magistrate Brett Sonnet told Jacob Hersant on Wednesday he will be sentenced to a “relatively modest term of imprisonment” at his next court appearance … The maximum potential sentence is 12 months in prison plus a 24,000 Australian dollar ($16,177) fine … Hersant gave the salute and praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in front of news media cameras outside the Victoria County Court on Oct. 27, 2023 … Asked by a reporter during the court’s lunch break if he had anything to say in what then could have been his last moments of freedom, Hersant replied, “I regret nothing.” “I’m prepared to go to jail for my beliefs,” Hersant told reporters.

… The ban and subsequent backlash were tied to a massive culture shift at Wikipedia, precipitated by the rise of a new social-justice-minded power structure at Wikimedia Foundation … Where Wikipedia had been built on the principle of decentralized knowledge, the Movement Strategy would veer into the hyper-centralized space of top-down social justice activism and advocacy … The key concept undergirding the Movement Strategy was “inclusion,” an idea rapidly becoming buzzy amid the swirling culture currents that would soon crystallize into #MeToo, BLM and the trans movement.

Many condemn historians’ changing interpretations as evidence of political bias … All written history is — in one respect or another, on one scale or another, and with one impact or another — revisionist in intent or consequence. Revisionist history is a universal phenomenon.

… When people are offended or otherwise greatly displeased by historical analysis, they often employ the term “historical revisionism” as a synonym for falsified, distorted, or doctored accounts that fly in the face of what they, their history teachers, and perhaps even the most respected university historians believe to have been the case. The irony of such use of the term “historical revision,” which makes it practically a swear word, is that revisionism is and always has been an integral part of historical research and writing.

Revisionism as applied to World War II and its origins (as also for previous wars) has the general function of bringing historical truth to an American and a world public that had been drugged by wartime lies and propaganda … Revisionism brings to the artificial frenzy of daily events and day-to-day propaganda, the cool but in the last analysis glorious light of historical truth. Such truth is almost desperately needed in today’s world.

Israel is in grave danger due to the departure of its best and brightest who want to live in a “free liberal democracy,” not one where “the government forcibly takes power” and too many people are “silent and do not react,” Nobel-winning scientist Prof. Aaron Ciechanover said. Ciechanover, 76, a biologist associated with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, is one of Israel’s leading scientists. He won the Nobel Prize in Biology in 2004 … “There is a huge wave of departures from the country,” Ciechanover said in a speech delivered Sunday … “Most senior doctors are leaving the hospitals; universities are finding difficulties in recruiting faculty members in critical areas. This community is “very narrow,” he added. Citing economic reports, Ciechanover said that “as soon as 30,000 of these people leave, we won’t have a country here.”

… According to this survey, the number of homeschooled children increased from 3.6million in the 2022-2023 school year to 4 million this year. As more parents become aware of how government schools short-change education in favor of indoctrination by incorporating “woke” subjects like critical race theory, transgenderism, and “green new deal” propaganda disguised as “climate science” into the curriculum, more parents will turn to homeschooling. The conservative counter to “woke” education is the mandating of “patriotic” education, which is code for promoting the neoconservative line that all of America’s wars were justified and America has a right and duty to use its military might to spread democracy. This may cause even more parents to abandon government schools.

The US government currently imposes sanctions on a third of all nations on earth in a situation that disproportionately affects low-income countries – 60 percent of which are under US sanctions of some kind – according to an analysis of the White House’s long-standing policy of economic warfare by the Washington Post. This trend spiked during the last four US governments and reached a fever pitch under President Biden, who imposed over 6,000 sanctions in just two years … This approach by a revolving door of White House officials ignores the devastating effect of economic coercion policies on civilian populations, as countless studies have shown that sanctions cause immense suffering and possibly deaths in the hundreds of thousands.

The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine,” a new exhibit at the Norman Rockwell Museum … The MAD team in its heyday included founders William Gaines and Harvey Kurtzman, editor Al Feldstein, and artists and writers from Mort Drucker, Al Jaffee and Dave Berg to Larry Siegel, Stan Hart and, more recently, Drew Friedman, all Jews (and all men, I know). Its pages dripped with Yiddishisms, some real (shmuck!) and some imagined (furshlugginer!). Nathan Abrams, in an article on MAD’s Jewish sensibility, argues that in the 1950s and ’60s the magazine “marinated in the same urban Jewish culture” that produced the New York Intellectuals …

Joseph Sobran, a senior editor at National Review and a nationally syndicated columnist, defends himself against accusations of “anti-Semitism” because he had written articles critical of the role of the “Israel lobby” in shaping US foreign policy. He speaks here with C-SPAN television host Brian Lamb in an episode titled “The Sobran Scandal” that aired on July 14, 1986. They discuss a piece by National Review editor William F. Buckley, which both praised and castigated Sobran. Buckley later fired Sobran from the magazine. The viewers who call in with comments and questions are overwhelmingly sympathetic to Sobran.

… There will only ever be one Joseph Sobran. When he was excommunicated from the conservative movement, we lost our best hope for intellectual credibility … He spent his career forging a social policy grounded in natural law — a tradition of conservatism he traced back through Johnson, Burke, Chesterton, Lewis, Oakeshott, and Orwell … Sobran had been slated to write a column for this magazine, an offer that was withdrawn after he refused to cancel his speech to the IHR [Institute for Historical Review]. Yet he still disavowed the label “Holocaust denier,” and confessed to having no “consuming interest” in the Holocaust at all. He simply admired the IHR’s “calm virtue of critical rationality” … It’s time to rake his books out of the ashes before they’re completely forgotten.

The news that I would be addressing the Institute of Historical Review came to some people as, well, news … The IHR’s mission can’t be fairly summed up as “Holocaust denial.” Its real mission is criticism of the suffocating progressive ideology that has infected and distorted the telling of history in our time … In short, the Holocaust has become a device for exempting Jews from normal human obligations. It has authorized them to bully and blackmail, to extort and oppress.

One of the great goals of education is to initiate the young into the conversation of their ancestors; to enable them to understand the language of that conversation, in all its subtlety, and maybe even, in their maturity, to add to it some wisdom of their own. The modern American educational system no longer teaches us the political language of our ancestors. In fact our schooling helps widen the gulf of time between our ancestors and ourselves, because much of what we are taught in the name of civics, political science, or American history is really modern liberal propaganda.
